The single most useful thing we do on a manual gate is shoot the grade across the swing path. A driveway that rises even a few inches across the arc will make a swing gate scrape, and that is the point where the job becomes a slide gate instead.
Swing gates want level ground and clear arc room. Slide gates want side room along the fence line but tolerate slope. Cantilever slide gates need no ground track at all, which matters where dust or debris would foul one.
Frames are cut, fitted and fully welded in the shop. Field-welded gates are the ones that come back sagging, because nothing on a job site is as flat as a fabrication table.
Footings are sized to leaf weight and wind load. A hinge post carrying a heavy leaf on an undersized footing will lean within a season, and once the post leans the gate never latches right again.
We hang the gate, set the rollers or the arc, fit the drop rod and latch, and adjust until it moves with one hand and latches without being lifted.

If your driveway slopes across the opening, or a parked car or planter sits in the arc, a slide gate is the answer. We shoot the grade on site rather than guessing from a photo, because a couple of inches of fall decides this.
A single swing leaf is sensible to roughly 16 feet, after which the weight at the far end makes it hard to move by hand and hard on the hinge post. Beyond that we go to a bi-parting pair, or to a slide gate, which has no practical width limit for the openings we see in this county.
