Vallejo has the oldest housing stock we work on. Most Heritage District homes were built between 1860 and 1890 in the Queen Anne, Eastlake, Italianate and Stick styles locals call the Working Man's Victorian, and much of St. Vincent's went up between 1890 and 1915. Nothing about these properties is standard: openings are irregular, the streets are sloped, and the detail on the house sets an expectation the gate has to meet. Then there is the air. The frame is fabricated in our own shop rather than ordered in and adjusted on site. That means the gate is built square to your measured opening, the welds are ground before finishing rather than after, and when something needs adjusting years later there is no supplier in the middle of the conversation.
Yes, and it is work we particularly like. We take the proportions and detail from the house itself, the bracket work, the porch detail, the window rhythm, and draw the gate to match rather than picking a generic Victorian motif. In the Old City Historic District the design gets reviewed, so we draw to that from the start.
